A New Notebook

I spotted this gorgeous notebook in Waterstones whilst out shopping with my family. I had been looking for the perfect notebook that I could jot down new ideas whilst out and about so it had to be small enough for my bag but have enough room for drawings as well as written ideas.

This one is by the The Woodland Trust, the UK's conservation charity so I know that it has been responsibly sourced.

I absolutely love this Pheasant design. I also love the fact it has that little bookplate looking design on the front for you to write your name. I have not yet been brave enough to write on the cover for fear of ruining it with my very curly handwriting! May need to practise some calligraphy to get it just right.

The paper inside is a good weight , thick enough to withstand my rubbings which is a plus for me as that tends to happen...a lot.

It is safe to say this is my new companion. It will not look this pretty for long so I just had to document it before it becomes too well loved !

Thank You Woodland Trust and Waterstones!

Countryside Walk

I am lucky enough to live in the Dorset countryside which to some is the most idyllic place to live. Within just a few minutes I am able to access beach walk, countryside walks, woods and farmland. This is where I have lived for most of my life. Before that was the Wiltshire countryside which is just as beautiful.

My village is surrounded by woodland which makes for lovely walks all year round, and fantastic for inspiration gathering. I am often seen out with my children and camera ( and one of my cats that also joins us) taking photographs and collecting leaves and sticks to make artwork from.

This is how I captured this photograph. This is a little woods that leads onto an old disused train line that ran through the village years and years ago. There is nothing left now really, apart from an almost ghostly pathway between the larger trees that echos the original reason of their placing.

I wanted to photograph trees as I have some absolutely stunning material I picked up that I think would look fantastic as tree bark. The shape of the trees is the most important thing when considering how to draw them or applique onto fabric so that it doesn't lose its organic look.

I hope you enjoy the photograph as much as I do. It feels peaceful to me and i was very inspired by it.

A Beautiful Dressing Table

This Beautiful Dressing Table is in the master bedroom at Little Orchard and belongs to my Mother. I went to visit and saw how gorgeous it looked and I had to photograph it.

My Mother has wanted a traditional dressing table for years. She had one at home as a child but has never been able to replicate it until she moved to Little Orchard just before Christmas. It was left behind by the gentlemen that lived there before along with some other gorgeous old pieces of furniture .

The traditional dressing table is something that I believe every girl and woman has wanted at some point in their lives. The idea of being able to sit at it in the morning looking fresh from a good nights sleep is very appealing! I love the little dishes and pots that hold jewelry ready to be selected and put on in the morning. I remember my Nanny had a lovely dressing table when I was little . We would sit together and she would let me try on all her jewelry which felt very glamorous.

I hope you love this as much as I do

Sunday 3 January 2016

You may have seen the sneak preview last night of this new item i have been designing.
Here is the finished product .
I came up with the idea of doing a doorstop cottage after i find my self continually using various shoes or toys as a prop to hold our stair gate open in the evening once the children have gone to bed. I knew i wanted something rustic and i wanted to use re purposed fabrics. The structure of the house is actually from a skirt i owned years ago and have been using for scrap bits for various little projects but couldn't think of the perfect use for the larger pieces.
The little red door i thought was a cute little touch which really stands out. This idea came from a house nearby to me, it is the only one on the lane to have a primary coloured door and it really shows up so i had to include it!

I love the windows on the house. I have gathered the curtains before i stitched on the window frame, i really want to peek inside and imagine a little family living in there.

This little cottage style door stop is ideal for a country home or for those who want to introduce a bit of the countryside into their house.
